'I love you': How a badly-coded computer virus caused billions in damage and exposed problems which remain 20 years on

Skinny, with a mop of black hair falling to his eyebrows, he appeared to barely register the journalists’ shouted questions, his only movement the occasional dabbing of sweat from his face with a white towel. Seated to his right, de Guzman’s lawyer Rolando Quimbo had to lean in close to hear the 23-year-old’s mumbled response, which he then repeated in English for the waiting press.

“He is not really aware that the acts imputed to him were indeed done by him,” the lawyer said. “So if you ask me whether or not he was aware of the consequences I would say that he is not aware.”

Twenty years on, the ILOVEYOU virus remains one of the farthest reaching ever. Tens of millions of computers around the world were affected. The fight to contain the malware and track down its author was front page news globally, waking up a largely complacent … Read More

People stuck at home due to virus turn to news programming

NEW YORK (AP) — With millions of American homebound due to the coronavirus pandemic, there’s little surprise they’re curious about what’s going on in the world.

News programs reached more people than they had in years and, in one case, notched its biggest average audience ever, the Nielsen company said.

Two of the broadcast evening newscasts, which offer a cogent summary of the day’s developments, had a bigger average audience than any program in prime-time last week. They were ABC’s “World News Tonight,” up 38 percent in viewers from its season average, and NBC’s “Nightly News,” up 47 percent.

The “CBS Evening News” audience was 31 percent higher than it is typically.

The cable news networks, which never turn off, were also playing in millions of American homes. MSNBC’s daytime audience, starting at 6 a.m., was higher than any other week since the network began in 1996.

Use Your Computer To Help Folding@Home Solve The COVID-19 Virus Pandemic

The fight against COVID-19 goes nuclear

From the Folding@Home website:

Folding refers to the way human protein folds in the cells that make up your body. We rely on the proteins to keep us healthy and they assemble themselves by folding. But when they misfold, there can be serious consequences to a person’s health.

The Folding@home software runs while you do other things.

While you keep going with your everyday activities, your computer will be working to help us find cures for diseases like cancer, ALS, Parkinson’s, Huntington’s, Influenza and many others.

Please be patient if you experience idle time as we face the COVID-19 pandemic together! We are working like mad to start simulations of COVID-19 proteins. The enthusiastic response to our effort has been tremendous and has sometimes emptied our queues. This is a great “problem” to have as there is no end to the

'I have to rotate the kids on the computer' for virus

Lauren Polman is using food pantries, the MPS free lunch program and whatever other resources she can tap to make sure her five children are safe and fed these days.

Her oldest is in 12th grade; her youngest is a toddler. The single mother said she does get paid time off from her job, and doesn’t receive any government assistance, but she’s stretched by the demands of coronavirus.

“Parents plan to feed their children three meals a day during spring and winter break,” said Polman. “We didn’t prepare for this; we didn’t have time to prepare for it.”

Polman has been going to the North Division meal program and a food pantry to “bridge the gap.”

“It’s not a time to panic,” she said. “It’s time to utilize the resources that are still provided to us.”

Polman said her children aren’t used to

Free Antivirus 2020 | Download Antivirus & Virus Protection Software

Free Antivirus - Best of 2020

How Does Antivirus Software Work?

Any time you open or download a new file, an antivirus program will scan the files for viruses and other harmful executables. Almost every free anti virus software today features multiple scanning detection processes. The most basic detection process is called “specific detection.” It works by scanning a file for various sets of characteristics and checking these characteristics against a list of already known malware. This process is an essential component of an antivirus software, and essential for every free PC antivirus, but it is also easy for cybercriminals to evade. All a cybercriminal must do is modify the malware code slightly to render it undetectable.

The top free antivirus, Comodo Antivirus, does not rely only on specific detection. Comodo also uses heuristic detection and containment to ensure that even unknown malware cannot compromise our users’ computers. Heuristic detection is a method of analyzing a

What is Virus

Computer Virus

A computer virus is a malicious program that self-replicates by copying itself to another program. In other words, the computer virus spreads by itself into other executable code or documents. The purpose of creating a computer virus is to infect vulnerable systems, gain admin control and steal user sensitive data. Hackers design computer viruses with malicious intent and prey on online users by tricking them.

One of the ideal methods by which viruses spread is through emails – opening the attachment in the email, visiting an infected website, clicking on an executable file, or viewing an infected advertisement can cause the virus to spread to your system. Besides that, infections also spread while connecting with already infected removable storage devices, such as USB drives.

It is quite easy and simple for the viruses to sneak into a computer by dodging
